Hudson, Hudson Valley’s Maker Hotel
$$ | 2021 HOT LIST
Ideal for: Chic couples who are constantly feeling romantic
The lounge, a remodeled carriage house from the 19th century, is a must for cocktails.
The Maker lives in the center of Hudson, a Hudson Valley refuge town, a haven for artists and New York City urbanites. It is a jewel-box property initially created as a lifestyle fragrance brand. It is small and intimate, with just 11 rooms, each with a unique design personality. Cloud-like linen bedding and velvet throw pillows with jewel tones adorn the beds (which are available for purchase at the hotel). Each room has marble heated flooring in the bathroom and plush Italian robes in the wardrobe.
The hotel offers a romance package all year long that includes breakfast and bed (at $25 per person), in-room champagne, and a hotel-branded candle of your choosing (starting at $80). There is an intimate minibar and The Maker Sleep Experience turndown service (including chamomile tea, CBD gummies, and other conveniences). Spend an afternoon walking up and down Warren Street, where the hotel is situated, stopping by furniture stores along the way, even if it’s to renovate a mental illness or an apartment mentally.
The property’s on-site restaurant, located in a glass conservatory surrounded by layers of lush foliage, serves Italian cuisine. However, you and your significant other should check out the cocktail lounge, which is located in a remodeled carriage house from the 19th century and features high ceilings and leather-clad walls. It has a hand-carved fireplace, candlelight in every corner, and some of Hudson’s most excellent specialty cocktails and small nibbles.
Every hotel visitor can access the Perfume Library, where professionals and hotel staff collaborate to create The Maker’s peculiar and erotic “Scent of the Month” tradition. Lev Glazman, The Maker’s founder and fragrance architect, offers a personal selection of fragrances. To top it all off, visitors may savor the hotel’s Dream and Lover Fragrance Cocktails at The Maker Lounge.

Hotel Chelsea (Manhattan, Chelsea)
$$ | 2023 HOT LIST
Ideal for: A fashionable couple on their “honeymoon phase”
A must is to visit the spa on the rooftop.
Hotel Chelsea is the ideal fusion of seductive, stylish, and luxurious for a genuinely romantic stay, regardless of whether you live in the city or are itching for an urban getaway. The rooms are lively and welcoming, with light streaming through ivory fabric curtains over stained glass. They are interspersed with historic items from its history and modern design elements. However, the new spa on the building’s rooftop is the most admirable feature for couples. The Bond is a couples massage performed by two skilled therapists in the property’s mysterious Couples Suite. It includes a custom foot soak to help ground before a full-body massage (which can be customized for each person according to their preferences).
Additionally, the Couples Suite offers a couple’s experience dubbed Elements of Connection. You two can get a tandem massage there after soaking in a specially designed marble tub laced with roses. It’s a carefully planned encounter with the in-house botanical body cream you and your spouse choose. The new spa also features a traditional Swedish sauna, fragrant steam rooms, rain showers, and a fireplace area, making it even more romantic for those not buying a package. The Lobby Bar is one of the most fantastic bars in Chelsea for dinner and cocktails. Everything feels great in a place like this, with the ideal companion for company and a bracing cold martini that licks the rim.

New York’s Hotel Barrière Fouquet’s (Tribeca, Manhattan)
$$$ | 2023, 2024 READERS’ CHOICE AWARDS
Ideal for: An undiscovered entryway to the City of Love
Dinner at the Brasserie and a beverage at Titsou are musts.
The Tribeca North Historic District’s cobblestoned crossroads features an industrialized red brick front that gives way to eight storeys of French-inspired art deco interior architecture. The lobby’s interior is decorated with pastel shades of dusty rose and gold plating, further elevating the 97 rooms and suites they provide. You can reserve two rooms and four suites, all with floor-to-ceiling windows that create a bright, airy, lovely, and excellent space for you to sleep in. In addition to a lounge space with sectionals,
the suites have bathrooms with deep, contrasting two-tone marble, complete with a huge rain shower and separate basins for men and women. Try the luxurious underground spa with a hydrotherapy pool, Turkish bath (or hammam), and sauna. And, in keeping with Tribeca’s well-liked yearly film festival, visit the hidden, Cannes-inspired theater with velvet love seats.
With the flawless and well-rounded dining experiences, you won’t need to leave the hotel to be entirely happy with your stay. First, have supper at Brasserie. With crimson velvet couches, black and white images of movie stars, a mobile sommelier, and fine cuisine, the evocative setting pays homage to the original Fouquet’s in Paris on the Champs-Élysées. Slip inside the chic Titsou Bar, a speakeasy serving cocktails that is subtly concealed behind the wood-paneled bookshelves in the lobby, for a nightcap. The venue offers the charm of 1920s Parisian décor for a romantic get-together, and this season it serves specialized hot drinks with latkes and caviar.

A picture-perfect A-frame from the Hudson Valley’s Pine Plains
Ideal for: A couple (or two) looking for a large, quiet forest getaway
Coffee on the veranda in the morning and dinner at the neighboring Stissing House are essential.
This elegant and luxurious modern cabin-style Airbnb is located in the center of the Hudson Valley in a peaceful cul-de-sac. The sanctuary, “Upstate A,” is an excellent choice for couples who want to escape the crowded city life. Sparkling lakes and endless rolling hills surround it, but it is also close to popular stores and eateries. Couples will be welcomed by the property’s three bedrooms and two complete bathrooms, all on the first floor (together with a washing machine and dryer).
The large glass windows in the living area upstairs let in plenty of natural light that reflects off the walls. It’s ideal for enjoying morning coffee and the forest views from the adjoining balcony encircled by large trees. Adjacent to the large, contemporary kitchen with all the latest high-tech conveniences (and a complimentary bottle of wine, thanks to the host), there is a dining table. For a delightful change of pace, a private loft that can serve as your main bedroom is accessible by a spiral staircase that leads from the kitchen. This is not your typical “cabin in the woods,” but rather a well-designed one with vibrant color accents, comfortable bedding,
and enticing houseplants, all of which appear to be intended to help you and your partner make new memories. You can watch TV, listen to music, and dance close to one another, along with the large, triangular, floor-to-ceiling windows (below the 20-foot ceiling).
Chaseholm Farm, a charming farm shop five minutes away, offers local vegetables and treats (such as Alleyway Ice Cream, produced in Saugerties, another Hudson Valley town) to fill your refrigerator. For couples who enjoy the outdoors, there are many nature trails in the area, including one at and around Stissing Mountain. For dinner, visit the neighboring Stissing House, one of America’s first taverns and a popular venue with cozy eating areas and fireside lounges. The restaurant was dimly lit and bustling, housed in a white colonial building with a widespread light green door. You’ll probably be eager to get back to sleep after dessert (and a great martini).

The Rockaway Hotel in Queens’ Rockaway Beach
$$ | 2021 HOT LIST
Ideal for: Relaxed beachgoers
Enjoy the views of the beach from your room.
The charming Rockaway Hotel is just a few blocks from the famous Rockaway Beach in Queens. No matter the season, the area seems inviting for couples who enjoy a beach getaway thanks to its simple design and abundant color accents. Most New Yorkers I know have differing opinions about the beach, but after staying at this hotel, I noticed that people’s appreciation for its aesthetics changes. Maybe a definitive understanding that we New Yorkers cannot be picky about our seaside getaways. The hotel’s rooms are cheerful and light,
bringing the essence of the adjacent coast inside. The design makes you feel completely removed from the city, with blond wood floors and natural materials on the furnishings with woven accents. The rooms ‘ main feature is numerous huge windows facing the ocean, one of which lets in salty air. Enjoy spending time with your significant other while reading, drinking coffee, and gazing out to sea while lying in bed. Then, a couple’s massage at the hotel’s recently enlarged spa (during certain seasons, you may relax in the Winter Pool House, a health retreat including heated outdoor pool, cedar barrel saunas, the coziest robes, and a lounge decorated with woodsy, sherpa throws, and teak furniture.)
Drink beverages at the rooftop cocktail lounge as the evening wears on, taking in expansive views of the Manhattan skyline (larger concerts and outdoor access are available in the summer, along with DJ party sets by the pool). Enjoy a romantic supper at Margie’s, their first-floor restaurant, which is deep blue and golden illuminated and is always very exciting and dramatic. Throughout the year, they offer a Getaway For Two Stay package that includes a 50-minute spa treatment for two people, followed by dinner at Margies that includes your choice of an appetizer, two entrées, and dessert (note: drinks and gratuities are not included).

$$
Ideal for: Partners who value a creative restoration
The bar and lounge must have swanky beverages and live music.
The 18-room boutique hotel Hotel Lilien is housed in a Victorian home from the 1890s. The velvety texture of the design exudes romance, and the dark wood paneling throughout the inside reflects the natural light that floods in via the stained-glass windows. Couples can enjoy their private outside patios while stargazing at the pristine stars of the Catskills from the queen and king rooms. There’s also a fire pit outside for toasting s’mores and chatting with other visitors, who are increasingly hip urbanites fleeing the throng in New York City.
Even though some people might not like having no TV in the suite, it’s perfect for intimacy and quality time, along with comfortable Wright mattresses and plush Brooklinen sheets. Lovebirds can enjoy a peaceful and leisurely stroll along Huckleberry Trail or visit the local stores for unique home décor and charming souvenirs at Tannersville Antique & Artisan Center, a genuine romantic mountain town getaway. They provide poolside beverages on their expansive lawn throughout the warmer months.
Two can enjoy a contemporary continental breakfast in the morning with warm croissants and various teas. Located in the center of the Catskills, the Eastwind Oliverea Valley Hotel is a 27-room boutique hotel with a modern design that offers free-standing, A-frame cabins. The property provides a break from everyday life and is perfect for couples seeking a luxurious, fantasy getaway in the middle of nature. Its sauna and wood-fire-heated lounge are the ideal combination, and its proximity to ski areas makes it the perfect place to spend the winter.
